Stand up for local control of cell antennas and towers

At the bottom of this page is a letter you can customize and use to stop HR 2289.

This is a letter that you can customize and send to your city council or county board of supervisors (the Supes!) asking them to oppose HR 2289, the American Broadband Deployment Act of 2025.  It is a composite of 22 industry written bills and it would strongly limit the ability of state and local governments to regulate the placement of cell towers and antennas. 

This sample letter is written for a city.  If you are writing to a county replace every use of the word "city" with "county".  Customize the part about "How this bill would affect me".  Remember to put your name on it. 

In your email ask for a response.  To ensure they notice it, attend the next council or board meeting, virtually if you like, and speak up during public comments. 

The key thing is that opposing HR 2289 is consistent with the city or county's policy of opposing all legislation, state and federal, that would take away their power to do anything.  HR 2289 is a massive power grab, overreach, etc. directly against the public interest and for the financial interest of the telecommunications companies, aka telecom.  It's opposed by national organizations representing local government. 

You will be educating your elected officials, many of whom may have never heard of the bill.  You may have to repeat yourself by sending your email again the following week and the week after that.  Keep on them.  And by attending more than 1 council or board meeting. It takes repetition to get their attention.  

You can also write to the any city or county, even one that you do not live in, and ask them to oppose HR 2289.  You don't have to be their constituent.  You are doing them a favor by bringing this to their attention and enabling them to protect their own interests and their residents.
